Dhenkanal, Mar 6: A man was killed after a trolley rammed into a roadside house in Hatibari village under Gandia Police Station limits of Dhenkanal district early Friday morning.

According to reports, the accident occurred at around 4 a.m. when a trolley loaded with asbestos sheets lost control and first collided with a tractor before crashing into a house located along the roadside.

The deceased has been identified as Asthir Tarai, a resident of Hatibari village. He was sleeping inside the house when the vehicle crashed into the structure, causing it to collapse. He died on the spot after being trapped under the debris.

The trolley driver and helper sustained serious injuries in the accident. They were rescued by locals and shifted to Sriram Chandrapur Hospital for treatment.

Preliminary reports suggest that the trolley was travelling from Mandar towards Karamul when the driver lost control due to overspeeding. The vehicle first hit a tractor parked near the house and then, along with the tractor, crashed into the house situated about five feet below the roadside level, completely damaging the structure.

On receiving information, police from Joranda along with personnel from Odisha Fire and Emergency Services reached the spot and carried out rescue operations. Police have begun an investigation into the incident.
