Bhubaneswar, Dec 13: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Sujeet Kumar has been elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha.
Kumar submitted his nomination papers for the vacant Rajya Sabha seat from Odisha on December 9. As no other candidates filed nominations, he was declared elected.
Initially elected to the Rajya Sabha in 2020 as a Biju Janata Dal (BJD) nominee, Kumar resigned from his seat and left the BJD in September this year. He later joined the BJP, which nominated him for the current Rajya Sabha seat.
The election for the seat was originally scheduled for December 20.
It is worth mentioning that another former BJD Rajya Sabha member, Mamata Mohanta, also resigned from the party and joined the BJP. She was subsequently re-elected to the Rajya Sabha as a BJP nominee.
