Odisha: Bird Flu outbreak prompts mass culling in Khordha district

Bhubaneswar, July 24: A bird flu outbreak in Khordha district’s Jankia area has triggered a mass culling operation after lab tests from Bhopal confirmed avian influenza in local poultry.

Over 4,500 chickens were culled and 1,600 kg of feed destroyed at a farm in Mundamba to contain the virus.

More than 50 vets and officials are on the ground to implement containment measures.

Chief District Veterinarian Rabinarayan Behera said the culling and sanitation efforts are part of standard biosecurity protocols. Locals have been urged to avoid contact with poultry and report any unusual bird deaths promptly.
