Keonjhar, April 2: Three students have been arrested on charges of stealing bikes in Keonjhar, police said on Tuesday.
The arrested have been identified as Dipankar Gochayat (19), Sibanarayan Pradhan (21), students of a private engineering college in Keonjhar and Rajib Gop (21), a + 3 commerce student. They were staying in a rented house on the outskirts of Keonjhar town.
They have revealed before the police that they were stealing bikes to spend money for their girlfriends and extra pocket money.
According to police, bike stealing complaints were frequently reported under Keonjhar Town Police Station. Acting on a tip-off, a team conducted raids in the rented house and recovered four stolen bikes along with intoxicating substances.
Police also rescued a minor girl of Joda area during the raid, said to be girlfriend of accused Dipankar.
Two accused have been forwarded to court while Sibanarayan has been detained for further interrogation, said police.
