Bhubaneswar, August 5: In a strong move against noise pollution, Bhadrak police have recently seized and destroyed more than 250 illegal motorcycle silencers, crushing them under a road roller in a public demonstration meant to send a strong message to violators.
The month-long special drive, led by Bhadrak Town Police, focused on motorcycles—particularly Royal Enfield Bullets—equipped with modified silencers that generate loud and disturbing noise. Offenders were penalized with fines of ₹10,000, and their silencers were confiscated.
To underline the seriousness of the campaign, the seized silencers were crushed in full public view—a symbolic warning against illegal modifications. The operation was headed by Inspector In-Charge (IIC) Prabhashu Mishra of Bhadrak Town Police Station, who stated that the next phase of the drive would target shops selling these banned silencers.
The police have also announced that enforcement will now extend to retailers involved in the sale and installation of such illegal accessories.
Local residents, long troubled by the growing nuisance of noisy motorcycles, welcomed the action and praised the police for addressing the issue head-on.
