Odisha: BCJD President Ipsita Sahu picked up by Bhubaneswar Police from Rama Devi University

Bhubaneswar, October 15: Bhubaneswar police on Thursday picked up Biju Chhatra Janata Dal (BCJD) president Ipsita Sahu from the Rama Devi Women’s University campus amid ongoing voting for the student union elections.

Following Sahu’s detention, BCJD women students staged a protest on the campus.

The police action came after a complaint was lodged at Saheed Nagar Police Station, alleging that Sahu had misbehaved with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) presidential candidate and other female students. However, it was not immediately clear whether her detention was directly linked to the complaint or whether there were other reasons for the police action.

According to the FIR filed at Saheed Nagar Police Station, ABVP presidential candidate Pratiksha Dash Mohapatra and three other female students alleged that they had gone to the Hostel around 7 am on Thursday to meet an unwell student when they were allegedly confronted by Ipsita Sahu and BCJD presidential candidate Fatima Khatun.

The complainants alleged that Sahu and Khatun verbally abused them, misbehaved with them and engaged in a scuffle.

The allegations are yet to be independently verified.
