Bhubaneswar, Aug 14: Odisha Vigilance on Wednesday arrested a geologist in Odisha’s Balangir district for allegedly demanding and acepting bribe from a complainant.
The accused has been identified as Ashim Anshuman Nayak, geologist at the Ground Water Development (GWD) demaprtment in the office of the Deputy Director, Geology, Ground Water Development (GWD) Division in Balangir.
Nayak was caught red handed while acepting a bribe amount of Rs 40,000 of an overall demand of bribe of Rs 50,000 from a consultant engaged by the ‘CHHATA’ scheme of the Odisha government for Rooftop Water Harvesting.
For a year now, the complainant has been requesting the accused Nayak to release his consultancy fees. But, the accused demanded Rs 50,000 from the complainant to release his said fees.
According to the vigilance report, Nayak asked the complainant to pay Rs 10,000 as 1st installment to process the file and accordingly received the amount few days back. Finding no other way, the complainant took the help of Vigilance. Accordingly, Vigilance sleuths nabbed Nayak while accepting the remaining Rs 40,000.
The entire bribe money has been recovered and seized.
Following the trap, simoltaneous searches are underway at three locations linked to Nayak from the disproportionate asset (DA) angle. A cse has been registered at the Sambalpur Vigilance in this connection.
