Bhadrak, Feb 3: An auto-rickshaw driver in Bhadrak has won accolades for returning a bag containing gold jewellery to a woman who had had accidentally left the baggage in his vehicle.
Subhasmita Swain had boarded an auto from Talanagar to Jamujhadi in Balasore district on Thursday along with her two children.
She accidentally left her bag in the vehicle after reaching the destination.
The auto driver, Inayat Khan of Puruna Bazar area of Bhadrak district saw the bag when he went to have tea at Charampa.
He found gold jewellery (necklace, earring, bangles) along with clothes in the bag. Without further delay, he went to Jamujhadi, 20 km away from there to return the bag. He enquired about the woman's whereabouts by asking the local shopkeepers, but in-vain. Later, he left for Talanagar but failed to find her identity and address.
He deposited the bag at Bhadrak Town Police station on Friday and appealed the gathered media to reach his message near the woman.
Being informed about her bag through media, Subhasmita reached the police station last evening along with her brother.
Police called Inayat Khan, who identified the woman, and police handed the bag containing gold jewellery over to her.
Subhasmita thanked Inayat and expressed her gratitude by accepting her as a brother and touching his feet.
Subhasmita was on her way to father's home to attend a marriage ceremony when she left the bag in the auto.
