According to sources, he was upset with BJD’s decision to re-nominate sitting MLA Prabhu Jani from the Laxmipur seat as he was aspiring to contest the upcoming polls from the assembly segment on a conch party ticket.

He alleged that the regional party had assured him to give Special Development Council (SDC) and Rs 1 crore after the elections, but failed to keep its word.

Later in 2021, he had resigned from Congress and joined the BJD.
