Bhubaneswar, Sept 21: The Monsoon Session of the Odisha Legislative Assembly is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, with the Opposition parties preparing to raise several key issues during the session.
The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) will hold a strategy meeting at 5 pm today to chalk out its approach for the session. The Congress Legislature Party is scheduled to meet tomorrow morning to discuss its strategy.
Opposition legislators have indicated that the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Act, or MMDR Act, is likely to emerge as one of the major issues during the session. Other matters, including alleged printing errors in textbooks and the state’s law and order situation, are also expected to trigger heated discussions in the House.
Meanwhile, the ruling BJP is also preparing its strategy to counter the Opposition. The BJP Legislature Party is scheduled to hold a meeting this afternoon to discuss its approach to the session.
An all-party meeting is also being held this morning to ensure the smooth functioning of the Assembly. The Parliamentary Affairs Minister has said that the government is ready to discuss all issues raised during the session.
Security arrangements have also been strengthened in and around the Assembly premises. As many as 36 platoons of police personnel will be deployed, along with more than 150 police officers, as part of the security arrangements.
