Odisha: All party meeting convened ahead of Budget session

Bhubaneswar, July 21: The first session of the 17th Odisha Legislative Assembly is set to begin on Monday, July 22, 2024, with an address by Governor Raghubar Das. 

Before that, all-party meeting was held on Sunday at assembly premises to ensure the smooth conduct of the session. 

 Speaker Surama Padhy chaired the meeting, which saw participation from various political leaders. 

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Deputy Chief Minister K.V. Singh Deo made a notable gesture by visiting former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik to invite him to the meeting. Although Patnaik did not attend, the Chief Whip of Biju Janata Dal, Pramila Mallik, was present.

“Detailed discussions held on the suggestions made by the leaders of all the political parties during the meeting to ensure the smooth conduct of the current session of the 17th Odisha assembly,” said Speaker Surama Padhy.

Mallik told reporters, after the all-party meeting, that the leaders deliberated on how to run the house smoothly and peacefully.

However, the leaders from the opposition Congress and Communist Party of India (Marxist) skipped the all-party meeting.

The election for the Deputy Speaker post is scheduled for July 24, 20241. The session aims to run smoothly under the leadership of Chief Minister Majhi and the guidance of Speaker Padhy.

This session is significant as it marks the new government’s first budget presentation, scheduled for July 25, 202412.
