JHARSUGUDA

Bhubaneswar, May 5:  The upcoming assembly election in Jharsuguda is appeared to be a fascinating contest, with three prominent candidates vying for the opportunity to represent the constituency.

Incumbent MLA Dipali Das, daughter of the late Naba Kishore Das, has been re-nominated by the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD). She secured a victory in the recent by-poll in 2023, winning by a significant margin of 48,721 votes. Her entry into politics after her father’s unfortunate demise has garnered substantial support from the people of Jharsuguda.

On the other hand, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has once again nominated Tankadhar Tripathy, who contested in the 2023 by-election. However, there are concerns among the local BJP cadre as he is considered an outsider to Jharsuguda.

Similarly, the grand old party, Congress, has reposed faith in Amita Biswal, daughter of former Chief Minister Hemananda Biswal. Her nomination aims to revive the party’s prospects in Jharsuguda.

The election results will undoubtedly shape the local political dynamics, and it remains to be seen how Dipali Das faces the anti-incumbency wave and consolidates her position in Jharsuguda this time.

As of now, the ruling BJD appears to hold a comfortable position. The voters’ decision will determine the future course of representation in this triangular contest.
