​​​​​​​Bhawanipatna, Sept 16: In a horrifying incident, a 56-year-old woman was allegedly axed to death by her son in Narla area of Odisha’s Kalahandi district on Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as Kalpana Bishwal (56) and the incident took place in Sandharpur village in Bardharpur panchayat under Narla police limits.

As per reports, the accused, identified as Bhuban Bishwal (30), locked himself and his mother inside a room at around 2 PM this afternoon and repeatedly attacked her with an axe over some unknown dispute. She suffered grave injuries in the attack and died on the spot.

Upon being informed by villagers, police teams from Narla and Kesinga arrived at the scene around 4 PM. However, they were initially unable to nab the accused, as he had locked himself inside the house after the murder.

Later, a reserve police team from Bhawanipatna broke open the door and arrested Bhuban from inside the room.

The exact motive behind the gruesome killing is yet to be ascertained and further investigation into the matter is underway, said the police.
