Bhubaneswar, Dec 9: Today marks the birth anniversary of Kantakabi Laxmikanta Mohapatra, a towering figure of modern Odia literature and the immortal creator of “Bande Utkala Janani.” On this occasion, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi paid homage to the legendary poet through a post on his social media handle, X.

In his tribute, the Chief Minister wrote that Mohapatra’s literary works, enriched with deep patriotism, along with his selfless contribution to the freedom struggle, will continue to serve as an enduring source of inspiration for the people of Odisha.

Born in Talapada village under Tihidi block of Bhadrak district, Laxmikanta Mohapatra made a lasting impact across multiple genres of Odia literature, including poetry, short stories, novels, satire, and malika writings.

His timeless creations such as “Bande Utkala Janani,” the novel “Kanamamu,” and the short story “Budha Sankhari” earned him widespread recognition, making him a household name in Odisha.

Kantakabi Laxmikanta Mohapatra’s remarkable contributions have left an indelible mark on Odia literature, ensuring his legacy remains alive for generations to come.
