
Bhubaneswar, October 11: The much-awaited ITTF-ATTU 28th Asian Table Tennis Team Championships 2025 officially began on Saturday at the Athletics centre of Kalinga Stadium here. The inaugural ceremony was graced by Sports & Youth Services Minister Suryabanshi Suraj who officially inaugurated the championship.
The championship will feature exciting matches in both men’s and women’s categories. In the morning session, 12 teams — including Sri Lanka, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Maldives, Uzbekistan, Oman, DPR Korea, Macau China, Thailand, Bangladesh, Qatar, and Nepal — will compete in the group stage matches.
The Kalinga Indoor Athletics Stadium will play host to more than 300 delegates from 22 Asian nations over five days starting Saturday. The world’s top-ranked paddlers — Sun Yingsha and Wang Manyu among women, Wang Chuqin and Lin Shidong among men — headline a field brimming with world-class talent.
“It is a matter of great happiness for Odisha that this championship is being held here, and we warmly welcome players from all 22 countries participating in this championship,” said Minister Suraj.
He also highlighted the State’s growing prominence in the global sports arena.
Sheikha Hayat Al Khalifa, Acting Regional Vice-President, ATTU & President, Commonwealth Table Tennis Federation; Dushyant Chautala, President, Table Tennis Federation of India; and Sachin Ramchandra Jadhav, State Sports & Youth Services Secretary and Padma Shri Awardee and India’s Table Tennis legend, A. Sharath Kamal, the Brand Ambassador of this event, also graced the inaugural event.
