Sambalpur, July 29: In a heart-wrenching tragedy, an 18-year-old student lost his life after being struck in the chest by a fast full toss delivery while playing cricket in Odisha’s Sambalpur on Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as Utkarsh Singh Chauhan (18), a resident of Majhipali village under Shasan police limits.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident took place at the Railway Cricket Stadium when Utkarsh was playing at the nets and a full toss delivery hit him squarely in the chest, causing him to collapse on the field.
He was immediately rushed to the nearby Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital where the attending doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Upon getting the information, Khetrajpur police arrived at the hospital and seized the deceased’s body. Subsequently, it was sent for post-mortem.
An unnatural death case has been registered and further investigation is underway into the incident, said the police.
