Mohana, Jan 9: At least 21 high school students sustained injuries after the pick-up van they were traveling in turned turtle at Champa Ghati in Odisha’s Gajapati district last night.
As per reports, the mishap took place when the students of Chheligada Government High School were on their way back after attending a sports event at a mini stadium in the R Udayagiri area. The driver of the vehicle lost control over the wheels while negotiating a turn and overturned.
The driver fled from the spot soon after the mishap.
On getting the information, police arrived at the spot and rescued the students. They were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
Later, five of them were shifted to MKCG Medical College And Hospital in Berhampur and two to Paralakhemundi Hospital as their health condition deteriorated.
Further investigation into the matter is underway.
