Talcher, Oct 10: Normal life in Talcher of Odisha’s Angul district was paralyzed after the Kriyanusthan Committee called for a 12-hour bandh today demanding operation of Talcher Medical College and Hospital as soon as possible.
Regional units of several political parties including the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress have extended their support to the bandh.
Vehicular movement was also affected due to the bandh which is being observed from 6 am to 6 pm today.
However, emergency services including ambulance and healthcare services have been exempted from the purview of the bandh.
Police have been deployed at several locations to tackle any kind of untoward situation.
As per reports, the state government had promised to name the hospital after freedom fighter and former Deputy Chief Minister of Odisha Prabitra Mohan Pradhan and make it operational from October, 2023.
Though the construction of medical college building was completed in 2019, the hospital is yet to open. Delay in the functioning of the hospital has triggered resentment among the locals.
