Bhubaneswar: Odia table tennis player Sarthak Arya by representing India double crowned in the WTT Youth Contender Dammam held at Saudi Arabia from 22-26 September 2024. Competing in U-15 Boys singles and Mixed Doubles categories, Sarthak with outstanding performance bagged double gold medals.
In the U-15 mixed doubles, Sarthak alongside Kavya from Maharashtra advanced through challenging round against teams from Uzbekistan, Saudi Arabia, UAE and Taiwan to reach the final, the duo wins over another Indian pair Soham Mukherjee and Syndrela Das by 3-0 (13-11, 11-9, 11-8) to secure the title.
Sarthak's success continued in the U-15 Boy's singles, which saw 100 participants from different countries. Betting opponents from Qatar, Egypt and Taiwan. Sarthak faced top Chinese Taipei in the final. He clinched the title with a commanding 3-1 (11-5, 14-16, 11-7, 13-11) victory over Chinese Taipei’s Fang Yong-En.
Sarthak hails from Odisha State and brought this laurel for the country. He is in standard 10th student of Delhi Public School. Currently he is being trained under coach Ravi Acharya at Rainbow Khelo India Center, Himachal Pradesh. The President and all the members of Odisha State Table Tennis Association congratulate him on this achievement.
The WTT Youth Contender Dammam 2024 was played without players from traditional powerhouses such as the People’s Republic of China, the Republic of Korea, Japan, and Sweden. India delivered a strong performance against teams from Chinese Taipei, Kazakhstan, Egypt, South Africa, Qatar and Yemen.
