Ganjam, Nov 2: A pall of gloom descended in Odisha’s Ganjam area with the death of an Odia girl in the stampede at the Sri Venkateswar Swami Temple, Srikakulam on Saturday.

The body of the victim identified as R Rupa is being brought to her native place on Sunday where her death rituals will be performed, said sources.

R Rupa from Odisha’s Ganjam district is among the 10 deceased who were killed in the stampede at Sri Venkateswar Swamy Temple Complex in Srikakulam on Saturday.

Fortunately, a kin of the Odia girl was narrowly saved from the mishap who survived though sustained critical injuries.

R Rupa, is from Gudiapadar village under the Patrapur Panchayat Samiti in Ganjam.

According to reports, R Rupa was crushed to death amid the stampede whereas her kin could survive, and was rushed to hospital for treatment.

The girl’s body will reach Ganjam where her cremation will be performed, said local sources.
