Lucknow, Oct 21: Sri Lanka registered their first win in the ODI World Cup 2023 on Saturday, as they beat the Netherlands by 5 wickets, with 10 balls remaining.
Sadeera Samarawickrama's unbeaten 91 was the highlight of the Lankan chase in the 19th match of the World Cup 2023 at the Ekana Stadium, here. He was rightly adjudged the 'Player of the Match'.
For the victorious island nation, opener Pathum Nissanka (54), Charith Asalanka (44) and Dhanjaya de Silva (30) played useful knocks on a winning cause.
Earlier, electing to bat first, the Netherlands with Sybrand Engelbrecht's compact 70 and Logan van Beek's fighting 59, scored 262/10 in 49.4 overs.
At one stage, the Dutch were struggling at 91/6 in 21.2 overs. But their 130 runs 7th wicket stand helped them to put up a somewhat fighting total on board against the Lankans.
For Sri Lanka, their pace bowlers Dilshan Madushanka and Kasun Rajitha both claimed 4 wickets each. Off spinner Maheesh Theekshana got one and tail-ender Paul van Meekeren was run out.
