Rayagada, Mar 10: Tragedy struck Odisha’s Rayagada district on Tuesday when two motorcycles collided head-on near the Durgi Jagannath Temple, under the Bissam Cuttack police station limits along State Highway No. 36, killing two on the spot. The severe impact of the crash left the riders critically injured and caused panic among residents.

According to police sources, two individuals lost their lives at the scene due to the force of the collision. Another injured rider was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention but succumbed to injuries later, raising the death toll to three. One other person sustained serious injuries and is reported to be in critical condition.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the accident was the result of a direct head-on collision between the two motorcycles, though authorities are yet to confirm the exact cause. Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with debris scattered across the highway and bystanders rushing to help the victims.

Local police have initiated an investigation into the incident and are urging motorists to exercise caution, especially along busy stretches of the State Highway, to prevent further accidents. Authorities also stressed the importance of adhering to traffic rules and wearing helmets, highlighting the role of safety measures in reducing fatalities in road mishaps.

The incident has once again raised concerns about road safety in the region, prompting calls for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations and increased awareness among riders and commuters aswell.
