ODI WC: Bangladesh win toss, opt to bat first vs India

Pune, Oct 19: Winning the toss, Bangladesh opted to bat first against hosts India in the 17th match of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 on Thursday.

The Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium, here is known for high-scoring matches. Therefore, more than 300 plus is expected to be a competitive total, the experts opined about a possible target for a side batting first.

India have retained the same squad for the match, while Bangladesh would be led by Najmul Hossain Shanto instead of unwell regular skipper Shakib Al Hasan.Nasum Ahmed was included in place of Shakib. They also included Hasan Mahmud in place of Taskin Ahmed.

Bangladesh suffered a setback as skipper Shakib Al Hasan failed to recover from the left quad injury, he suffered in the previous match against New Zealand and decided to sit out this crucial game. 

Winning the toss, stand-in skipper Shanto said, "Feeling proud to lead the side. We will bat today. It is a fresh wicket. It'll be good for the team if we put up a good score. Shakib is struggling a bit, and Nasum replaces him. We have some great memories against India, hopefully, we continue our form. It'll be a great match. Another change as Hasan comes in for Taskin."

India skipper Rohit Sharma said, "Either way I would have bowled first. We are planning to stick with the same plan. don't see any reason to change it. That plays a crucial role in this World Cup, keeping everybody in their own space. The boys are confident and as well as enjoying their cricket. We want to continue this momentum with no change in the Playing XI,"
