The Mahila Police registered the case based on a complaint from Mohapatra's wife, Archana Dash. She filed the complaint under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Dowry Prohibition Act.

According to the complaint, Mohapatra married Archana on February 21, 2024, and they were blessed with a baby boy on May 7, 2025. However, just four days after the child's birth, Mohapatra, who works at the Odisha State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA), allegedly abandoned Archana and the newborn at the hospital on May 10. Since then, he has not maintained any contact with them.

Archana claimed, “My husband has stopped responding to my phone calls and messages. He has subjected me and my child to cruelty.” She also accused Mohapatra's mother and sister of mental harassment and humiliation.

Archana's lawyer stated, "We tried to resolve the issue through mutual discussion, but Mohapatra failed to provide any positive response. Hence, we were forced to file a complaint with the police."

The police are expected to conduct an investigation and take appropriate action in the case.
