Balasore, Feb 13: A pilgrim bus traveling from West Bengal to Andhra Pradesh met with a tragic accident early this morning near Bahanaga Market under Khantapada police limits in Balasore district. The driver was killed in the incident, while 14 passengers sustained critical injuries.

According to preliminary reports, the accident occurred on National Highway 16 when the driver allegedly dozed off at the wheel. The bus reportedly veered off course and mounted a bridge before plunging down. The driver fell from the bridge and died on the spot.

More than 50 passengers were on board the bus at the time of the accident. Fourteen critically injured passengers have been admitted to the Khantapada Community Health Centre for treatment.

The damaged bus remains precariously hanging from the bridge as rescue and recovery operations continue. Police have initiated an investigation into the incident.
