Bhubaneswar, Sept 28: Odisha Health Minister, Mukesh Mahaling announced that the nurses who were on strike will resume their duties from tomorrow.
This decision came after a fruitful discussion with the representatives of the Odisha Nursing Employees’ Association (ONEA) at Lok Seba Bhawan on Saturday evening.
The cease work which began on Wednesday, had caused significant disruptions in healthcare services across the state.
The nurses were pressing for a 10-point charter of demands, including the regularisation of contractual workers and scrapping of the outsourcing system.
Despite the imposition of ESMA, the Odisha Emergency Services (Maintenance) Act 1988, which prohibits strikes by medical staff, the nurses continued their agitation.
The Health Minister had previously urged the nurses to resume their duties multiple times, assuring them that their demands would be addressed.
Following the recent discussions, a high-level Inter-Departmental Committee has been constituted to find a solution.
It’s a relief that the nurses will be returning to work, ensuring that healthcare services will be resumed from tomorrow morning.
