Global alumni join fitness event fighting addiction worldwide

Excitement has reached a fever pitch at the Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT) as the campus prepares for a massive display of fitness and unity. The highly anticipatedJSW VSSUT Burla Marathon2026 kicks off today, January 11, bringing together a vibrant community of students, alumni, and fitness enthusiasts from around the globe.

Starting at 5:00 AM sharp from the iconic Siddhi Vihar Gate, the event carries a powerful message: "Say Yes to Life, No to Addiction." Adding star power to the morning, Olympian and Asian Games silver medalist Dutee Chand will be present to flag off the races, inspiring runners to push their limits for a healthy lifestyle.

Global Reach with Local Spirit

Organized by the US-based VSSUT Overseas Alumni Association, this event is more than just a local race; it is a global celebration. While the physical run dominates the streets of Burla, technology has enabled alumni from 61 different batches to join virtually. Runners are participating simultaneously from major Indian metros like Bangalore and Delhi, as well as international hubs including London, Sydney, Seattle, and Singapore.

Race Details and Route

The marathon features three major categories to accommodate different endurance levels: the 21.1K Half Marathon, a 10K run, and a 5K fun run. The scenic route takes runners from Siddhi Vihar Gate through the heart of Burla town, past Sambalpur University and Jyoti Vihar, before looping back to the start.

Beyond the running, the atmosphere promises to be electric. Organizers have arranged high-energy Zumba sessions, cultural programs, and refreshments to ensure a festive environment for everyone attending.

Participation by the Numbers

This inaugural edition has seen an overwhelming response. A total of 2,792 participants have registered to run. The breakdown of the runners highlights the inclusive nature of the event:
