No more police station visits? Odisha police brings 14 services to WhatsApp

Bhubaneswar, Sept 12: After Citizen Police and the Sahayata app, Odisha Police has taken another step towards digital policing with ‘Ama Sathi’, a unified WhatsApp-based service that allows citizens to access 14 police-citizen services without visiting a police station or concerned office.

The service was launched by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on December 25, 2025, on the occasion of Good Governance Day. It is now formally available to the public.

According to DGP Binayatosh Mishra, the initiative has been introduced to make police services more simple, faster, transparent and citizen-centric.

14 Police Services on WhatsApp

‘Ama Sathi’ functions as a 24-hour digital assistant. Citizens can submit required information and documents through WhatsApp and track the status of their applications. For services offering digital documents, approved documents can also be received through WhatsApp.

The 14 integrated services include:

Character certificate

Senior citizen registration

Employee verification

Report related to lost property/documents

NOC for loudspeaker permission

Tenant verification

Lost property registration

Missing person information and registration

Complaint registration

Verification of employees/domestic help

Permission for events and demonstrations

Permission for rallies/protests

Copy of FIR

Final form copies related to road accidents, stolen vehicles and theft cases

How to Use ‘Ama Sathi’?

Citizens can save the Ama Sathi WhatsApp number: 9437292000 on their mobile phones and send “Hi”. They can then follow the instructions provided on WhatsApp and access the required service.

The unified WhatsApp bot has been developed through a collaboration involving the Odisha Government’s Centre for Modernising Government Initiative (CMGI), the State Crime Records Bureau (SCRB) and Meta India (WhatsApp).

The initiative aims to bring police-citizen services closer to people by allowing them to access several essential services from home, without the need for repeated visits to government offices.
