Bhubaneswar, September 24: Odisha Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari on Wednesday said no major damage or loss of life has been reported in Odisha following the crossing of a deep depression near Kalingapatnam on the Andhra Pradesh-south Odisha coast.
Pujari said the system has moved inland and is gradually weakening, while district administrations in southern and western Odisha remain on high alert. ODRAF, Fire Services and other response teams have been deployed, with 24×7 control rooms and night patrolling along vulnerable river embankments.
Waterlogging and uprooted trees were reported at some places, while traffic was diverted at a few locations due to flooding. Two houses were damaged in Nabarangpur after trees were uprooted, but the occupants were safely evacuated.
Heavy rainfall was recorded in several districts, including Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Khordha, Cuttack and Kandhamal. Similiguda in Koraput recorded the highest rainfall at 193.9 mm in the last 24 hours.
A red warning has been issued for Nabarangpur, while orange warnings are in place for Koraput, Malkangiri, Bargarh, Nuapada, Balangir and Kalahandi. Authorities said the situation is being closely monitored and evacuation will be carried out if required.
