Bhubaneswar, Nov 04: Bhubaneswar is set to host the 84th Indian Road Congress (IRC) at Janata Maidan from November 6 to 10, marking the return of this prestigious event to Odisha after a decade.

The congress will bring together over 3,500 participants, including experts, scientists, engineers, academicians, and administrators from across the country, for an extensive knowledge exchange on India’s road infrastructure.

The event will be inaugurated by Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, and will focus on innovation, technology, and policy in road construction and maintenance.

The 75th edition of the Indian Road Congress was last held in Bhubaneswar in 2015, and the state now rejoices in hosting the mega event again after 10 years. With India’s growing emphasis on modern transport connectivity, the congress aims to strengthen collaboration between government agencies, business enterprises, and academic institutions.

This is the sixth time Odisha will host the IRC, and it promises to be a significant platform for discussing emerging technologies and best practices in the sector. Over four days, experts and educationists will deliberate on road-related challenges, share research findings, and present technological innovations aimed at strengthening India’s connectivity network.

Various technical sessions and exhibitions will showcase new products, advanced materials, and modern engineering techniques used in road construction and maintenance. The congress will also feature presentations on sustainable development of transport infrastructure, with several companies and institutions displaying their innovations and evidence-based practices.

The technical exhibition will open on November 6, followed by key sessions 235th Council Meeting of the IRC – November 7, 85th Highway Research Board Meeting – November 8, 84th Business Meeting – November 9, 236th Council Meeting – November 10th.

These meetings will discuss investment plans, policy frameworks, and the future roadmap for road infrastructure development in India.

Adding a cultural touch, the event will also feature Odia art, dance, and music performances, organized by the Department of Odia Language, Literature and Culture, offering participants a glimpse into Odisha’s rich heritage and traditions.
