New Delhi, Aug 1: Indian equity indices started the day at record highs on Thursday, buoyed by favorable global signals. Early in the trading session, the Sensex and Nifty reached unprecedented peaks of 82,129 and 25,078 respectively.

Market sentiment remained upbeat with 1,503 stocks gaining and 570 in decline on the National Stock Exchange (NSE). Among the top gainers in the Sensex were Maruti Suzuki, JSW Steel, Power Grid, Tata Motors, Tech Mahindra, Wipro, Axis Bank, NTPC, IndusInd Bank, and HDFC Bank.
