Bhubaneswar, Jan 18:  After being appointed by the All India Congress Committee (AICC ) as the in-charge of Odisha, Dr. Ajay Kumar has been taking steps one after another.

OPCC in-charge Ajoy Kumar is now directly giving appointments to members. Earlier, the Pradesh Congress committee officials were appointed by AICC.

A few days ago, he gave an appointment to Biswa Ranjan Mohanty as chairman of the media section. Now he has constituted the war room committee of OPCC. Former finance minister and chairman of the manifesto committee, Panchanan Kanungo has been assigned as head of the war room committee. PCC secretary Prakash Mishra along with Bismay Mohapatra, Jinesh Das, Sanjay Tripathy, and Tarunkanti Mishra have got places in the committee.

Similarly, during his first visit to Odisha on January 6, Ajoy Kumar warned to constitute the district and block committees within 10 days. If the committee could not be formed, then the president would be removed, he had said.

Now Ajoy Kumar is visiting Odisha again from January 21 to 28. On January 21, he will attend the condolence meeting held for the father of PCC President Sarat Patnaik.

Then, he will participate in various programs organized by PCC from January 22 to 28, Kumar said.

In a few days, Dr Kumar has managed to generate a lot of enthusiasm and spirit in the party state unit through his meticulous attack on the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the major opposition force in the state.

Shunted out of power in the state in 2000, Congress has never been able in successive elections to put up a strong fight against the ruling BJD, largely because of intense factionalism and bickering among the party leaders. However,  present Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Sarat Pattanayak appears to have been able to carry along all the top leaders of the party with him.
