Cuttack, Feb 3: The body of a 75-year-old woman was recovered from the Mahanadi River near Kali Temple, close to Chhata Chhak in Cuttack, on Tuesday. The deceased has been identified as Basanti Kar, a resident of Tulsipur Police Colony.

Locals spotted the body floating in the river and immediately informed the police. The police, along with fire department personnel, reached the spot and retrieved the body.

Basanti Kar had been missing since last Saturday. According to her family, she was in good health and following her usual routine on that day. Her absence in the afternoon prompted her family to search for her, and after failing to locate her, they filed a missing person complaint at Bidanasi Police Station.

The police have launched a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
