Puri, Nov 23: Sacked TPCODL staff staged a protest on Puri Grand Road on Saturday, against the injustice made towards them.

They continued the protest with a sit-in demonstration on the Grand Raod demanding re-engagement in their jobs.

According to reports, Tata Power Central Odisha Distribution Limited (TPCODL) has reportedly terminated at least 220 contractual employees.

Annoyed over the illegal dismissals, the sacked employees staged a protest at Bada Danda in Puri, drawing the attention of the government.

In a novel protest, they offered mass prayer to Lord Jagannath, lightened lamps in front of Srimandir and initiated a sit-in protest on the Grand Road.

According to the protesters, they were working with the TPCODL as cashier-cum-customer care executives. After at least 12 years in the job, they were terminated from the post from November 1.

“We have expressed our concern before the CM and Dy. CM, urging them to address it soon. However, there is no response from them so far, on the matter. We will go on hunger strike, if we are not re-engaged in our jobs”, said a sacked staffer.

The comments of the TPCODL on the issue are yet to be obtained.
