Mumbai, Aug 18: BJP sources on Monday said that Maharashtra Governor and NDA's Vice Presidential candidate CP Radhakrishnan will be traveling to Delhi after meeting Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
It is worth noting that BJP National President JP Nadda on Sunday announced CP Radhakrishnan as the candidate for the Vice President elections, which will be held on September 9.
The BJP's parliamentary board made the decision after discussing it with their alliance partners and even the opposition, to ensure a smooth election process.
Chandrapuram Ponnusamy Radhakrishnan is currently the 24th Governor of Maharashtra, a position he has held since July 31, 2024. Before this, he was the Governor of Jharkhand from February to July 2024. He also took on the extra responsibilities of being the Governor of Telangana and Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry from March to July 2024.
Radhakrishnan is a veteran BJP leader and was elected twice to the Lok Sabha from Coimbatore. He has also served as the Tamil Nadu BJP State President.
A Vice President's term, which lasts for five years, became vacant when Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned on July 21, the first day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, citing health reasons.
The Vice President is chosen by an electoral college, which includes MPs from both houses of Parliament.
