Puri, Jan 13: The Puri police have launched a special campaign to curb the use and sale of manja—glass-coated kite strings—after several incidents of people getting injured. Puri, a major international tourist and religious destination, sees thousands of visitors and devotees every day, making public safety a top priority.

Under the direction of Puri SP Prateek Singh, the police have intensified operations across the city, especially in areas where accidents from manja strings have been reported. So far, around 70 bundles of manja strings have been seized from various shops and vendors. Those found selling these strings illegally have been issued strict warnings, with legal action to follow as per the law.

Police have highlighted that the use and sale of manja strings is not only illegal but also poses serious risks to human life, birds, animals, and the environment. Citizens are urged not to fly kites with manja in Puri or the Bada Danda area. Anyone witnessing illegal sale or use of these strings is advised to report it immediately to the nearest police station or call 112.
