Bhubaneswar, Sept. 17: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik mourned the demise of his elder sister Gita Mehta who passed away late at night on Saturday.
Naveen left for New Delhi on Sunday to attend her last rites, scheduled on Monday after the arrival of Gita’s only son from the USA, News7 sources said.
Among other prominent persons, Puri MP Pikaki Mishra, Senior BJD leader Anang Uday Singhdeo, and his family members reached the residence of late Gita Mehta at the Abdul Kalam Marg here in New Delhi and paid deep homage to the eminent poetess, filmmaker, and globally renowned journalist late Gita Mehta.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other dignitaries in the national capital have expressed grief over the demise of Gita Mehta.
Writing on X, Modi said Gita Mehta was a multifaceted personality. “I am saddened by the passing away of noted writer Smt. Gita Mehta Ji. She was a multifaceted personality, known for her intellect and passion for writing as well as filmmaking. She was also passionate about nature and water conservation. My thoughts are with @Naveen_Odisha Ji and the entire family in this hour of grief. Om Shanti.”
