Bhubaneswar, Aug 28: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today launched the commencement of distribution of land rights certificates under Jaga Mission to slum dwellers.
The land rights certificates were distributed at a special function organised at the Kalinga Stadium. In the first phase, 65000 families from 875 slums of Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Berhampur, Rourkela and Sambalpur were given the rights. The second phase of the land rights distribution will be held in October this year.
The Government of Odisha has upgraded 1010 slums of the state as Biju Adarsha Colonies with basic facilities like pavered roads, tap water supply at home, toilet and street lighting. More than 1.72 lakh families have already granted with land rights in 110 municipalities and NACs.
The Chief Minister said that the city is not only for the rich. Even the poor have the right to live in the city with their families. “We should all respect their contribution. Jaga mission has given respect to the poor,” he said.
Stating that this programme has attracted the attention of not only Odisha, but the whole world, he said that the poor people have the first right as a result of development. He opined that Jaga Mission has ushered in a new era in the transformation of the city.
