National Handloom Day: Odisha leaders celebrate rich heritage of traditional weaves

Bhubaneswar, August 7: On the occasion of National Handloom Day, Odisha leaders paid tribute to the state’s rich handloom tradition and the craftsmanship of weavers who have preserved the legacy of traditional textiles through generations.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi highlighted that Odisha’s traditional handloom attire reflects the state’s art, culture and identity. He said the creations of skilled weavers are not merely garments but an integral part of Odisha’s glorious history and heritage.

 

Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida extended greetings on National Handloom Day and called upon people to embrace indigenous handloom products. She urged citizens to turn Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Vocal for Local’ initiative into a mass movement by supporting weavers and taking Odisha’s handloom legacy to the global platform.

 

Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo paid tribute to Odisha’s weavers, describing them as custodians of a timeless artistic tradition. He highlighted the significance of iconic weaves like Sambalpuri, Bomkai and Kotpad, saying each thread represents India’s cultural excellence.

 

He stressed the importance of empowering artisan families and promoting the ‘Vocal for Handmade’ movement as part of the vision for an Atmanirbhar Bharat, while calling for collective efforts to preserve and carry forward Odisha’s rich handloom heritage.
