Bhubaneswar, Sept 8: Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI) of Odisha’s Nuapada district who was intercepted by the Vigilance with hefty amount of cash received as graft, has been arrested on Sunday.
The accused identified as Bijay Kumar Behuria, was remanded to Judicial custody after he was declared arrested by the sleuths.
Acting on reliable information, a vigilance team had intercepted MVI Bijay Kumar Behuria near Khordha Hospital Square while he was travelling from Nuapada to Bhubaneswar in a private vehicle on Thursday.
The cash, which Behuria failed to account for satisfactorily, was recovered and seized along with the vehicle.
Following this, simultaneous searches were conducted at Behuria’s residences in Nuapada, Jajpur, and Bhubaneswar, as well as his office chamber in Nuapada wherein disproportionate assets were reportedly unearthed from the possession of the MVI.
Later, a case was registered against the corrupt officer under the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, and he was taken to the Vigilance’s custody.
