Bhubaneswar, February 22: Odisha Police's "Operation Cyber Kavach," aimed at tackling cybercrime, has intensified its efforts, marking significant progress in the fight against illegal digital activities.

In the operation's first ten days, a total of 3,625 fake (benami) bank accounts have been scrutinized across the state. As a result, cases have been filed for 275 accounts, including 8 cases involving check withdrawals and 7 cases involving counterfeit SIM Point of Sale (PoS) devices. The operation has also led to the arrest of 187 accused individuals, with notices being issued to 1,075 suspected account holders and accomplices, covering both new cases and 84 ongoing FIRs.

Significant progress in tackling illegal digital activities has been made in Central Range, Cuttack, led by Dr. Satyjit Naik, IGP: 

  • Jagatsinghpur: 20 fake accounts investigated, 1 cybercrime case registered.
  • Jajpur: 44 accounts checked, 4 cases filed, and notices issued to 47 individuals.
  • Kendrapara: 88 accounts investigated, 5 cases registered, and 67 notices served.
  • Khordha: 98 accounts examined, 6 cases filed, and 2 notices issued.
  • Puri: 71 fake accounts checked, 4 cases related to mule banking, and 1 check withdrawal case registered, leading to 6 arrests and 15 notices.

In addition to these districts, the operation has extended its reach to several others, including Balangir, Jharsuguda, Kendujhar, Rourkela, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, and more.

The State Director General of Police (DGP), Yogesh Bahadur Khurania, has emphasized that the campaign will continue to grow stronger, with additional measures being implemented to ensure a cybercrime-free Odisha.

This effort is being carried out under the direct supervision of district SPs and DCPs, with district Cyber Crime Units working closely with the CID Crime Branch to coordinate the operation. The primary objective remains to disrupt the financial operations of cyber criminals and curb illegal activities in the state.Bottom of Form
