Jagatsinghpur, Oct 25: Tension prevailed across Jogadhari Chhak near Jagatsinghpur bus stand in Odisha after a betel shop owner was found brutally murdered late last night.

The deceased has been identified as Gyanranjan Pothal, a resident of the Pokpur area in Jagatsinghpur district. Police recovered the weapon of offence from the crime scene.

As per reports, Gyanranjan used to return home each night after closing his shop. On Friday, when he did not return, his wife, accompanied by a neighbour, went out in search of him and was horrified to find him lying in a pool of blood near Jogadhari Chhak.

Upon getting the information, other family members and local residents rushed to the spot, creating tension in the area. The police quickly intervened and brought the situation under control.

A preliminary examination of the body revealed multiple injury marks, indicating a brutal assault. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the motive behind the murder and identify the culprits.
