New Delhi, Oct 15: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday paid tribute to former President late A.P.J. Abdul Kalam on his birth anniversary and remembered him as a visionary who ignited the imaginations of young minds and inspired the nation to dream big.

He reflected that Dr. Kalam's life serves as a reminder that humility and hard work are crucial for success. PM Modi expressed his hope that the country would continue to build the India that Dr. Kalam envisioned—an India that is strong, self-reliant, and compassionate.

Taking to his official ‘X’ handle, PM Modi wrote, “Remembering Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Ji on his birth anniversary. He is remembered as a visionary who ignited young minds and inspired our nation to dream big. His life reminds us that humility and hard work are vital for success. May we continue to build the India he envisioned…an India that is strong, self-reliant and compassionate.”

Remembering Dr. Kalam, PM Modi said that he was a 'Rashtra Ratna' even before he became the 'Rashtrapati', and his legacy will continue to inspire the nation towards strength and self-reliance.

He also shared a video message paying tribute to Dr. Kalam, saying that his legacy will continue to inspire the nation.

“Dr. Kalam’s life was deeply meaningful and inspiring, and remembering him fills us with immense pride,” he said. “At the same time, it evokes a sense of longing for his presence among us. With his blessings, we strive to learn from and embody the values he stood for. Long before becoming the ‘Rashtrapati’ (President), he was a true ‘Rashtra Ratna’ (national gem). His life and ideals will forever serve as a source of inspiration for the people of India,” the Prime Minister added.

It is worth noting that Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam was born into a humble Tamil Muslim family in Rameswaram and began his journey by selling newspapers as a young boy to support his family. He went on to become a renowned aerospace scientist and later served as the 11th President of India.

Widely known as the "Missile Man of India," Dr. Kalam played a pivotal role in advancing the country’s missile and nuclear weapons programmes. He was a key architect of the 1998 Pokhran-II nuclear tests, which marked a significant milestone in India's strategic capabilities.

In 2002, he was elected as the President of India and earned the affectionate title of the "People’s President" for his humility, vision, and deep connection with citizens, especially the youth.
