Bhubaneswar, Jan 22: The state government has imposed a complete ban on pan masala, gutkha and khaini, citing public health concerns. A notification to this effect has been issued by the Health and Family Welfare Department.

According to the notification, the decision has been taken in strict compliance with the directions of the Supreme Court. The ban covers the production, preparation and packaging of these products, along with restrictions on their trade, sale and transportation across the state.

The department further stated that enforcement action will be carried out in accordance with the guidelines laid down by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). Authorities have been directed to ensure strict implementation of the ban to curb the use of such harmful substances.
