Sambalpur, Jan 2: The mother who had allegedly dumped her newborn girl into a bore well in Odisha’s Sambalpur, has been traced out by police.
Police identified the woman after a frantic investigation.
While the identity of the woman has not been yet revealed by the police, it was clarified that she hails from Sambalpur and has ill mental condition.
Sambalpur SP, Mukesh Bhamu said,“A case was registered after the newborn(Bijayini) was rescued from the bore well to reach at the accused who had allegedly dropped the two-day old girl into the abandoned bore well. Investigation revealed that her mother was the accused to dump the girl, finding it something abnormal. She confessed to the crime during interrogation.
She was sent to Cuttack for psychiatric evaluation to ascertain her stable mental condition as she was found depressed. Further action will be taken after her discharge, the SP added.
The two-day-old baby was found dumped in the bore well at Laripalli village under Rengali block limit on December 12. She was rescued after a day-long rescue operation by the ODRAF and Fire Services personnel.
