Ganjam, Sept. 3: The mortal remains of former Speaker of Odisha Assembly Surjya Narayan Patro were consigned to flames in Digapahandi on Sunday.
Following full state honour by the district administration and police, the ace BJD leader was given a tearful adieu by a crowd of fellowmen at his cradle land.
Late Patro’s mortal remains were carried to his native place Digapahandi from his official residence in Bhubaneswar. Following this, a great number of prominent people, relatives and BJD leaders paid tributes at his residence. Subsequently, he was taken out in a grand procession and consigned to the flames. Late Patro’s son Biplab performed the last rites in the presence of scores of party leaders and district administration, said sources.
