Mumbai, Aug 14: It is official. Former South African speedster Morne Morkel has been appointed as the bowling coach of Team India.
Confirming the news, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah stated Morkel's contract will start from September 1, 2024.
The 39-year-old former Proteas pacer will assume duties for the upcoming home series against Bangladesh, which begins with the Chennai Test on September 19.
Earlier, due to Morkel's unavailability due to personal reasons, Sairaj Bahutule served as an interim bowling coach during Team India's recent tour to Sri Lanka.
Morkel earlier worked with Gautam Gambhir, the present India Head Coach during their coaching stints with IPL franchisee Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
It can be recalled that during ODI World Cup 2023, Morkel served as the bowling coach for the Pakistan team.
