BCCI changes session timings due to fast-fading light in Northeast.

Cricket fans are buzzing as the India vs South Africa Test series moves to Assam for a historic match. For the first time ever, Guwahati will host a Test match, but it comes with a unique twist. The BCCI has announced a special schedule for the Guwahati Test, starting November 22, which includes an early start and the unusual decision to have the tea break before lunch.

This practical change was made to handle a major local challenge: the early sunset in Northeast India.

During winter, daylight in Guwahati fades rapidly after 4 PM. To ensure a full day of play, the match will begin 30 minutes earlier than the standard time in India. The toss will take place at 8:30 AM IST, with the first ball scheduled for 9:00 AM.

This early start directly impacts the session timings. The first session will run from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Normally, this would be followed by lunch. However, the BCCI felt that an 11:00 AM lunch break would be too early for the players.

Instead, the players will take a 20-minute tea break from 11:00 AM to 11:20 AM. The second session will then resume, with the official lunch break scheduled between 1:20 PM and 2:00 PM. The final session of the day will begin at 2:00 PM and is scheduled to end by 4:00 PM, with an extra 30 minutes available if needed to complete the day's overs before the light fades.

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia, who hails from Guwahati, confirmed the new schedule, calling it a "practical decision" to counter the early sunset.

This adjustment for the IND vs SA 2nd Test is specific to Guwahati. The first Test of the series, being played in Kolkata, will follow the traditional 9:30 AM start. Fans are eagerly awaiting this unique Test match schedule as Northeast India cricket celebrates its first-ever five-day international game.
