New Delhi, June 4: Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Wednesday announced that the Monsoon session of Parliament will begin on July 21 and continue until August 12.

Both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha will convene at 11 a.m. on July 21, marking the first sitting after a break of over three months. The schedule was recommended by the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs, chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Rijiju informed reporters.

The announcement comes amid growing calls from the Opposition for a special session of Parliament to discuss Operation Sindoor, a military operation launched by India on May 7 in response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed 26 lives.

Opposition leaders have been urging the government to allow for a full discussion on the events surrounding the Pahalgam attack and the government's response.

"We, the leaders of INDIA, reiterate our collective and urgent request to convene a special session of Parliament to discuss the developments following the terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, 2025," posted Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on social media platform X. The post included excerpts from a letter co-signed by key opposition figures including Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee.

Despite these demands, the government has opted to address the matter during the upcoming Monsoon session, rather than calling for a separate special session.
