New Delhi, July 22: The Monsoon Session of Parliament commenced on Monday amidst a united Opposition aiming to confront the NDA government on several critical issues, including the NEET paper leak and railway safety concerns.
During this session, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is scheduled to present the Economic Survey on July 22 and unveil the Union Budget for 2024-25 in the Lok Sabha on July 23. This marks the first Budget of the Modi government since returning to power for a third consecutive term.
Ms. Sitharaman's presentation of the Budget will be her seventh consecutive, surpassing the record of former Prime Minister Morarji Desai, who presented five annual Budgets and one interim Budget between 1959 and 1964 during his tenure as Finance Minister. Since assuming office as Union Finance Minister in 2019, Ms. Sitharaman has already presented six Budgets, including an interim one earlier this year.
The Monsoon Session, scheduled for 16 sittings, is expected to conclude on August 12. Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju emphasized that this session will primarily focus on financial matters pertaining to the Union Budget for 2024-25, to be presented on July 23.
